nbc 10 breaking news. breaking from overnight in florida, right now, police are searching for a toddler after an alligator attacked the 2-year-old in front of his parents and then dragged him into the water at a disney resort. >> right now, police in wilmington are searching for a gunman who shot five people overnight. what we know about the victim and the investigation this morning. after he rang off the last three shots, p.o.they bust thro the wall. >> a philadelphia native lives to tell the story of survive after coming face to face with the orlando nightclub shooter. we'll hear what she was thinking as the tragedy unfolded all around her. 6:00 a.m. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> and i'm rosemary connors. a lot to get to this morning. let's begin with first alert

meteorologist bill henley and the neighborhood forecast. good morning, bill. >> good morning, rosemary. a beautiful start to the day. we have sunshine, it's up. just a few high clouds visible in sea isle city. the high clouds, that's an indication of change. we will see more clouds this afternoon. there's even a slight chance that a couple spots will see a shower today. most of the day it will be completely dry. a nice warmup, cool conditions, right now 53 degrees in the suburbs. down in the middle 50s for new jersey in the lehigh valley, 53 degrees. sunshine now in delaware, 57 degrees at frawley stadium. a warmup into the upper 70s. this is where we see clouds come into play by lunch time. mostly cloudy and 77 degrees in wilmington. there's a slight chance of a shower passing through this afternoon in the wilmington area. most of the area will stay dry and see temperatures climb into the 80s. upper 70s for new jersey and delaware. at the shore, a warm one, 77

degrees with mostly sunny skies. philadelphia, up to 83 this afternoon. i'll go through the futurecast hour by hour when i'm back in ten minutes to show you when to expect those few showers today. first, jessica boyington has an update with first alert traffic. >> we'reç watching the schuylkl expressway and that's because there's police activity and fire department activity on the scene of girard avenue. this is headed eastbound towards center city. we will see delays shortly. we are only losing the right-hand shoulder and the right-hand lane. two lanes still getting by. traffic you canal see moving by at a decent speed there. we will start to see delays. just up ahead underneath one of the overpasses, there's a police officer and another vehicle involved there. there's also an accident in west norriton on sentinel ridge and colonial court. mass transit, delays for septa's route 11 and route 13 due to equipment problems. tracy? >> jessica, thanks. right now, we're following a developing story in new castle

county. five people are shot and the hunt is on for the person responsible. pamela osborne is live in wilmington. what do we know about the victims and the search for the shooter? fill us in. >> tracy, it's very early on in the investigation right now. i just checked in with pless. they're actually relying on the public to come forward with any information they have. police telling me this morning that any and all updates will come from their public information officer. i have calls in there. in the meantime, what i can tell you, five people were shot. at this point, it's unclear if those victims -- or where those victimses were when they were shot. we do know they were shot in the area of elm and southe van bure street. police were canvassing the neighborhood and talking to neighbors. the victims were taken to local

hospitals and are in stable condition. reporting live in wilmington, i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. 6:03 and 63 degrees outside. breaking from overnight, a 2-year-old boy is snatched from his father by an alligator. >> that's right. police say the boy and his father were wading in just about a foot of water at disney's floridian resort and spa in orlando last night when the alligator attacked. the child's father tried to grab the boy and even struggled with the gator. >> as a father, as a grandfather, we're going to hope for the best in these circumstances, but based upon my 35 years of law enforcement experience, we know that we have some challenges ahead of us at this time. >> more than 50 law enforcement officers have been searching the lake. in about 30 minutes, right around 6:30, we're expecting to get a live update from police there in orlando on the search for the boy. locally new from overnight, it took firefighters in

montgomery county more than four hours to get this fire at a business under control. our nbc 10 camera captured flames shooting from clemens i uniform rental at 5th and mitchell avenue in lansdale. because the building was so large, it took crews a while to figure out how to get enough water on the fire. no one was hurt. this fire began just before 10:00 last night in ewing township. firefighters battled the house fire for about an hour before gaining control. now to the terror in orlando. today, west catholic preparatory high school in philadelphia will hold a vigil in honor of one of its recent graduates killed in the mass shooting. akyra murray was in orlando celebrating her graduation with family and friends. she was a basketball standout and received a full scholarship to mercyhurst university. the private vigil will be this evening at 6:00. we have more on the

investigation into that mass shooting. federal agents now say that omar  husband when he bought ammunition and a holster used in the attack that left 49 dead and 53 hurt. >> they also say his wife may have tried to talk him out of the killing spree weeks ago. in the meantime, the fbi is looking at closer reports that mateen was a regular at gay nightclubs, including pulse. we also learned that fbi agents spoke with mateen's in-laws yesterday at their home in california. the city of orlando is continuing the grieving process this morning. last night five major vigils were held citywide. it was at first baptist, orlando's largest church. as people mourn, we are getting a first look at the medical heroes. these are the nurses and trauma surgeons who treated 44 of the victims. >> in a matter of 30 minutes, i think we had multiple surgeons coming in the door to help us out. i saw dozens of nurses who i knew were not on that night who showed up.

>> president obama will travel to orlando tomorrow to meet with the victims and their families. nbc 10's george spencer is in orlando covering the aftermath of this tragedy. his live reports continue this afternoon right here on nbc 10. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> heading out, a pretty nice start. sunshine is nice and bright. just a few, high clouds. we didn't have the thick clouds overnight that we've had the last couple mornings. the temperatures have dropped into the 60s in philadelphia and many of the suburbs, seeing the temperatures in the 50s to start with. seven-day forecast bottom of the screen. there are some changes on the way. we'll start to see the changes during the day. high clouds will start to move in. in spite of the high clouds, we'll find up with a warmer afternoon. the winds start to pick up and out of the southwest and that's really going to drive the temperatures up. but tonight, driving right into the area, clouds.

it will be clouding up and there will even be a few showers cracking into the late evening hours. the wind is fairly light. coatesville, a 5 mile-an-hour breeze. 2 miles an hour in dover. we see the winds pick up out of the southwest today. that will push temperatures into the low 80s for much of the area. also pushing our way, there's the first rain. you can see it in the d.c. area. looking more impressive now than when we first went on at 4:30 this morning. this may impact some of our area this afternoon. there's a chance that some of these showers will hold together as they move through d.c. at lunch time, a chance of scattered, mainly light showers moving through the area and even into the afternoon hours. that's 3:00 this afternoon from chester county in through northern new castle county, salem and cumberland county. those the are the best chances we're seeing rain. watch, it moves right out during the afternoon and early evening hours. we wouldn't see an all-day rain

by any measure. there's that chance of a brief shower today. tomorrow, a better chance of seeing rain. before any showers move in, the temperatures move up. lack at this. 84 degrees in chestnut hill. the suburbs, sunshine, 85 in lansdale, middle 80s for doylestown. the lehigh valley, readings well into the 80s. looks like 87 degrees in bethlehem and in easton today. a little cooler for new jersey. vineland 79 degrees wildwood is up to 76. clouds will be increasing. there's a slight chance of a shower developing this afternoon. a better chance of brief showers moving through delaware. wilmington will hit 80 degrees and very close to that for dover today. weekend forecast after the rain, things will be shaping up pretty nicely for father's day. we have your ten-day outlook when i'm back in ten minutes. >> excellent. fingers crossed for that, bill. let's get you updated on 76 eastbound atç girard. >> a lot of people trying to get into the city this morning. jessica, what can you tell us?

>> of course. especially on the schuylkill expressway. if you take the schuylkill eastbound, a lot of that has cleared out of the way. the vehicles involved with the police officers that i just mentioned a few moments ago have actually cleared. we did have a fire department activity on the scene as well. can't see that from our camera view here, of course. i wanted to take a look at the delay from the schuylkill headed eastbound around girard avenue as well. this is just before that scene. you can see the delays are doing a bit better. let's check out the drive times there as well. it looks like everything still in the green. we were starting to see a slowdown heading into center city. we're now at 22 minutes. not too bad. eastbound from blue route to the vine, 11 minutes still headed westbound, no problems there or gaper delay. there's an accident in limerick, neiffer road. routes 11 and 13 are delayed because of mechanical problems.

just about quarter after 6:00 on this wednesday. we have more on the terror in orlando. as investigators try to learn more about why the gunman decided to open fire in the nightclub, we're getting a first hand account from one of the survivors of the attack minute by minute. we're hearing from 20-year-old patience carter who is a native of philadelphia. >> the gunman entered the bathroom and was shooting his machine gun.

we're all scrambling around in the bathroom, screaming at the top of our lungs when he was in there for the first time and then, you know, people are getting hit by bullets. blood is everywhere. it was shock. we just went from having the time of our lives to the worst night of our lives all within a matter of minutes. >> patience carter also shared a poe up she wrote on monday night. she says it's part of the healing process. one of the lines in her poem reads "the guilt of being alive is heavy." you can listen to her entire interview and read her poem on or on the nbc 10 app. in other news now, today, a delaware school will find out whether it keeps its controversial name and school mascot. the redskins name and logo are a long tradition at the conrad schools of science in wilmington. tonight the school board will vote on whether to end that tradition. it would cost about 100,000 today's replace the name and a recent "washington post" poll

found 90% of native americans did not find the redskins name offensive. most said it was a proud part of their heritage. we'd like to know what you think about the name redskins being used in this way. it's become a point of controversy at several high schools, colleges and professional sports teams. tweet us your thoughts to the nbc news team. become part of the conversation this morning. today in montgomery county, a septa safety blitz. septa workers will be handing out pamphlets and talking to commuters at the lansdale regional rail station. they are reminding people that ignoring the gates and crossing the tracks could be a deadly decision. let's go to first alert traffic reporter jessica áp boyington. >> we are watching 95 first right now where we are seeing a delay. nothing out of the ordinary

headed southbound towards center city. this is right around girard avenue where we have a 21-minute drive time. speeds are dropping into the 40s. you can see if you're headed northbound maybe approaching a little bit of sun glare at that point. for the most part, looking normal. that accident scene or police activity has cleared from the schuylkill expressway headed eastbound around girard avenue. actually, drive times are back down, two minutes back down, headed eastbound into center city from the blue route to the vine. since we're at 20 minutes, we're back at a normal pace. westbound, no problemsç or gap delay because of that. there's also construction out in new jersey. watch for this on route 38 eastbound between route 130 and route 70, they'll have two right lanes closed there until saturday around 6:00 a.m. more updates when i'm back in ten. >> now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> coming up on 18 minutes after 6:00 and the sun is coming up,

bright sunshine to start with. just a few high clouds in the area. we'll see a warmup after a cooler morning this morning. that's philadelphia, look at the lehigh valley east. just some scattered clouds this morning. the clouds will actually increase some this afternoon. if you're looking for rainfall, that's going to wait until tomorrow. the temperature now 55 degrees in mt. holly, trenton, into the low 50s for allentown. philadelphia, 62 degrees. in the 50s right now in wilmington. much of the area is running cooler than yesterday. down 6 degrees in wilmington and dover, atlantic city is one grae cooler this morning. it will be a warmer afternoon, though. we'll be into the 80s today. the temperatures have been cool the last couple days but a shift in the wind will get a southwesterly wind to help boost our temperature up to 84 degrees. tomorrow, 75 degrees. what a difference. that's because tracking showers and thunderstorms for tomorrow. but by the time we get to the weekend, things will be looking a lot brighter and warmer, too. in fact, that starts on friday,

the last showers will come through first thing friday morning at the jersey shore and in delaware, then clearing out and warming up for the weekend. but before we get to friday, saturday and sunday, you will definitely need your rain gear. today, less likely to see showers. you can see scattered clouds right now. there are showers moving through d.c. and into southwestern pennsylvania. that will give us a chance of a few scattered showers today. really, the main event is what's moving through the chicago area and into michigan right now. that's part of the system that could give us heavy downpours late tonight and tomorrow morning into tomorrow afternoon. by late in the day tomorrow, we actually may see that shower activity moving out. check out the futurecast. it shows during the afternoon and evening hours, just a slight chance of light showers in our area today. there's the heavier rain to the west. by late tonight, early tomorrow morning, that's just after midnight. look at that line of showers moving through philadelphia with more to come into tomorrow

morning. this is when we could see heavy downpours at 6:00 in the morning. but by late in the day, those clouds start to thin out. the showers disappear by late in the afternoon. then we'll be on track for a pretty nice weekend. for today, sunshine and some clouds. 84 this afternoon. here comes the rain tonight and into tomorrow morning. by afternoon we could actually see breaks in the clouds. cooler tomorrow but right back into the warm zone for friday. 81 degrees, the high temperature. the 80s for saturday and father's day, 85 degrees. the humidity stays low for sunday. but here comes the heat and the humidity for monday, tuesday and wednesday. these are the first days of summer, officially arrives monday evening just after 6:00 and then back into the 80s for thursday and friday. tracy? >> father's day looks good. thanks, bill. 20 minutes past 6:00. right now in los angeles, a trial is under way to determine if a classic rock staple is actually a rip-off of another song. ♪

6:24 on this wednesday. 63 degrees outside. the nbc 10 studios. atlantic city officials say the former revel casino is not ready to re-open quite yet but maybe later this summer. new owner glenn straub insists, though, that the mega resort will re-open later today with 900 hotel rooms and several amenities. city leaders say straub still doesn't have a certificate of occupancy as a requirement to open. they say july fourth is a more likely opening date.

let's head to north jersey where two emergency medical technicians have resigned just days after they live streamed themselves ignoring a call for help to wait for their food at a white castle restaurant. university hospital in newark says the emts haveç resigned because their behavior violated several hospital policies. fortunately no patients were harmed as a result of the delay. good morning, everyone. jessica boyington checking on your first alert traffic. now we're checking out with the lehigh valley. this is 78 around lehigh street. no problems or delays. and the earlier construction we were talking about on 78 has cleared. it was closed eastbound between route 100 and 63. we'll have an update at 6:30. for now, let's get a check with meteorologist bill henley. >> 6:25, jessie.

nbc 10 breaking news. breaking from overnight, a 2-year-old boy is dragged into the water by an alligator at a disney resort. police are having a news conference right now. >> the gator swam away with the child unfortunately. we have not been able to locate

that child. we'll continue the search during the course of the evening. i'm going to turn it over to mr. wiley from fish and wildlife to give you more details from their perspective. >> we appreciate the county sheriff's department and how you responded in our partnership. first, our thoughts and prayers are with the family. we do want to keep hope and continue doing everything possible state and county government, working to find this young child. we are going to do everything we can to support them and also support our partners here at disney. >> what can you tell us about the last time there was a report of [ inaudible ]. >> we don't have the details on the latest report. we work very closely with disney to remove nuisance alligators readily. >> a 2-year-old child was pulled into a lagoon at a disney resort last night by an alligator. he and his father were wading in the water. the alligator attacked.

77 degrees. we'll find up with a warmer day overall. in fact, 83 degrees in philadelphia. warmer some of the suburbs. 84 for the suburbs, upper 70s in new jersey and delaware. count on upper 70s as well for the jersey shore. a couple spots might see a brief shower today ahead of rain tomorrow. i'll go through the forecast hour by hour when i'm back in ten minutes to show you when and where those showers will likely pop up. right now, let's see how the traffic is moving. jessica boyington has first alert traffic. >> we're watching 422. no problems here so far. but a 13-minute drive time. it's typically a 7 or 8-minute trip. you can see an increase. our cameras around 29 don't show much of that. eastbound and westbound, just fine, even with the drive time increased from 29 to the schuylkill. maybe a little bit of a delay to the schuylkill expressway. results of an acci ent out in montgomery at knapp road and

north wales road. wash for construction on admiral wilson boulevard. the right lane is closed. >> 6:33 right now. 63 degrees outside. this morning we're following a developing story in new castle county. five people are shot and now police are looking for the gunman. >> pamela osborne is live in wilmington. what do we know about the victims and the search for the shooter? >> well, tracy, it's very early on in the investigation when you stop and think about it, there's still a lot of work to be done. there are five victims as you mentioned who were shot. there are five witness accounts that police now have to get from those people to see exactly what happened. right now police are trying to find out who is responsible and why those schatz were fired. when we got to the scene last night at elm and south van buren streets, we saw officers talking to neighbors, canvassing the area, trying to get as much information and evidence as possible.

those five victims were transported to area hospitals and were considered to be in stable condition. it's unclear whether the victims were inside or outside when they were shot or if any of the victims were targeted. i did check in with police about a half hour ago. they told me all of the information this morning is going to come from their public information officer. i put in calls there, again, police in wilmington asking anyone with information as to what may have happened last night to give them a call. reporting live in wilmington, i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. now to the terror in orlando. as the nation mourns the 49 victims who lost their lives at an orlando nightclub, more information about the man who caused this chaos is revealed. federal agents say omar mateen's wife was with her husband when he bought ammunition and a holster used in the attract. and that she may have tried to talk him out of the killing spree weeks ago. investigators also say they haven't ruled out charging others in sunday's mass shooting. the fbi is taking a closer look

at reports that mateen was a regular at gay nightclubs, including pulse. back here at home, the ben franklin bridge will be colorful over the next few days. here's a live look at the bridge right now. you'll have to wait until dusk this evening, the bridge will be lit with the colors of the rainbow. here's what it will look like. the ben franklin bridge will wear the rainbow flag in honor of the victims of the deadly mass shooting in orlando. the bridge will remain lit in rainbow colors through saturday. george spencer is in orlando. his live reports continue later on today, right here on nbc 10. we have learned that philadelphia police have identified the body of a woman found in fairmont park. a 911 caller led them to the body of toye sharda bryant. police say the delaware county woman have been stabbed repeatedly and shot in the back of the head. her wrists were hand cuffed. police say it's likely her body was dumped there.

a trial date is set for a south jersey father accused of killing his 3-year-old son. david crayotto of haddon township was in court yesterday. during the hearing, prosecutors played a video of his interview with detectives the day his body was found in the woods. >> he pleads down in tears and pleads for more details. >> was found on the shore -- >> no! no! no, no, no, no, no! no, no, no! >> the child's body was found last october in cooper river park just a few hours after crayotto reported himç missing prosecutors say the father killed the boy because the boy put a strain on his relationship with his girlfriend. the trial is set to begin in october. 6:36. 63 degrees outside this morning. today a jury will get strucks from the judge and begin

debilitating in the federal corruption trail of congressman chaka fattah. closing arguments wrapped up yesterday. prosecutors told the jury that fattah is a thief and corrupt. they claim he took an illegal $1 million loan. the defense says the case is built on lies and that the congressman is innocent. we'll be in court today and let you know as soon as a verdict is announced. you'll get an instant alert on the nbc 10 app. now to our decision 2016 coverage. hillary clinton wrapped up the democratic presidential primary season with a decisive win in washington, d.c. the presumptive democratic nominee met with opponent bernie sanders in d.c. after her win. they talked about unifying the party and the threat they say donald trump poses to nation. that meeting is expected to set the tone for the democratic national convention right here in philadelphia next month. >> now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley.

>> 6:37. a beautiful start this morning. a cooler one, too. 62 degrees in philadelphia. the temperatures have been running cooler. i haven't seen as many clouds overnight. clouds will be moving in this afternoon. won't take over completely. we'll see enough sunshine to warm into the upper 70s. by lunch time, then into the 80s in philadelphia. the suburbs, bright sunshine to start with. 59 degrees right now. 74 at 10:00. upper 70s. as we go into the afternoon, we'll see more clouds, 78 degrees at 2:00. then some late-day sunshine, 80 degrees. the high temperature for some of the suburbs, the lehigh valley, brilliant sunshine this morning. the southwesterly wind will be light but just enough to help temperatures warm up more so than woo we've seen the last couple days. the last couple days, temperatures in the 80s. we'll see the warmup this afternoon. you'll also notice it in south jersey and at the shore today,

too. 80 degrees in south jersey by lunch time. into the 80s during the afternoon. we'll see more clouds around during the day today. even at the shore you'll see some of the clouds. it will be bright sunshine at lunch time and 76 degrees. there's a chance of a brief shower as we go into the afternoon hours. more likely in delaware than the rest of the area. it's nice and sunny right now as you can see by the live view from frawley stadium. 57 degrees at this hour. mostly cloudy by 10:00. by lunch time, the clouds are still here. the temperatures warm up into the upper 70s even with those clouds. early in the afternoon, there could be scattered light showers today. no heavy rain around. they'll be out by 4:00 in the afternoon. the clouds will remain into the 4:00 hour. the heavy rainfall moves in tonight and will be with us into tomorrow as well. got the futurecast to show you when it will move in or out when i'm back in ten minutes. tracy, rosemary? >> see you then, bill. thank you. let's get you out the door,

for nbc 10 responds, go to our website, 10 responds or call 610-668-7377 and we will respond to you. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> we have some sunshine, bright sunshine and a few high clouds. and the high clouds you're seeing, that's an indication of change. there is wet weather in our future. most of it will wait till tonight. at the shore, after a cool morning, a beautiful morning, too, we'll see a nice warmup from the city to the shore. in fact, a warmer afternoon today. clouds will take over this evening. they'll be moving in, bringing with them a few showers. right now long beach island at the shore has cooled into the 50s and 60s. a beautiful view there with bright sunshine. wind has shifted. that's going to be coming out of the southwest today. that will help to warm our temperatures and make for a warmer afternoon. it's not going to be as sunny as the last couple days.

you can see the clouds starting to move in from the southwest with some rain moving into the d.c. area right now. those showers are looking more impressive for d.c. but we could see them hold together for parts of delaware. even the suburbs might even see a sprinkle. the main event for tonight and tomorrow is this system to the west. we've been watching it all week long. it will move into the area tonight and we could see heavy downpours with it. during the day today, you'll see clouds moving in this afternoon and this evening, a chance some of light showers. but as we go into the late evening hours, 11:00 tonight. look at that line of showers through philadelphia with more to come overnight and into tomorrow morning. there's a chance we'll see heavy downpours at 6:30 tomorrow morning. then on and off showers as we go into the afternoon hours. late in the afternoon, tomorrow, the showers move out. we'll get late-day breaks of sunshine. so wet weather ahead. you just likely won't see that much of it today. a few scattered showers are possible.

will begin deliberations in the federal corruption trial of congressman chaka fattah. >> that's right. closing arguments wrapped up yesterday. prosecutors claim that congressman fattah took an illegal $1 million loan to fund his failed bids for mayor in 2007. the defense says the case is built on lies and fattah is innocent. we will be in court today and if a verdict is reached, we will let you know. also today, we'll get an update on pennsylvania's efforts to combat opioid addiction and the overdose crisis. this morning in harrisburg, the secretary for the state's department of drug and alcohol programs will talk about what's being done to combat the crisis. today the red clay school board will vote on whether to keep the redskins name and logo at the conrad schools of science in wilmington. it would cost about $100,000 to replace the name. now to the terror in orlando. tonight, west catholic high school in philadelphia will be holding a private vigil in honor of akyra murray. she was in orlando celebrating her high school graduation with family and friends when she was

killed in that mass shooting. beginning this evening, the ben franklin bridge will wear the rainbow flag in honor of the victims of the deadly massacre in orlando. this is what it will look like. the bridge will remain lit in rainbow colors through saturday. today in montgomery county, a septa safety blitz. septa workers will hand out literature on crossing the track safely at the lansdale regional rail station this morning. this morning, we're following a developing story in new castle county where five people have been shot. the gunman is on run. nbc 10's pamela osborne is live in wilmington. >> after five people were shot, this happened just after 9:00 last night at elm and south van buren streets in wilmington. all five victims were transported to area hospitals. they were considered to be in stable condition. again, police asking anyone that has any information about the shooting or who the shooter may be to give them a call.

reporting live in wilmington, i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. good morning, jessica boyington checking on your first alert traffic. we're watching big issues on the schuylkill expressway. this is right around gulf road or at least approaching route 2072. we have an overturned vehicle right here. you can see that over into the left-hand lane. that's blocking that off completely. now it looks like they're blocking all traffic from moving eastbound because you don't see cars moving through. this might be one of the first ones that have come through. big delays there because of this. police activity on the scene. penndot crews there. another vehicle involved as well. we have to use caution when traveling through and give yourself a lot of extra time. with one lane getting through, there will be delays. an accident in white marsh, germantown pike. and construction read route 130 and route 70. they'll have two lanes closed there until saturday around 6:00
